Athletic Director needs to earn that check and make the necessary change at head coach in this program. Can’t blame the poor year on the transition when you get swept by Lindenwood. Time to blow this up and start over.

Time to blow this up and start over. I am pretty disappointed with how poorly the men have competed this year. I knew we were mediocre but I think we are even worse than what I originally thought. I just turned off the mens soccer game out of frustration with the lack of competitiveness against a team that was ALSO D2 last year. Why/how are they that much ahead of us in 1 year in D1. Im not sure if its bad recruiting, player issues or just poor coaching. NO matter what the reason, we need change fast. EIther the coach needs to recruit better ASAP or he needs to step down. I have tried to be patient all season hoping USI would get better, but I don’t think they have. You might be right about cleaning house with mens soccer.

The AD seems like a nice fella, but in D I sports can no longer be treated as charity. The programs that were bad in D 2 need to be cleansed from top to bottom.

Unbelievable that USI is playing up a man in this match yet gives up a goal from 40 feet out. Even more unreal is USI missing a free penalty kick after a handball by western Illinois. The sad part is that it wasn’t even close. How can a player at this level blow that shot by that much. That should have been a goal for USI. The more I watch the more I get frustrated at this team.
At least we finally score after many missed chances.

This team is just really bad, fortunately Western is equally as bad.

This is his 15th year of bad soccer. That’s enough for me. There has to be someone that would do better that USI can get. I would take Memorial high schools soccer coach over our coach. I really hope he sees that he is in over his head and steps down right after the season to allow us time to get some new blood in and give him time to recruit some impact players. I think we have some decent players like Mitchel and he is just a freshman. But we need more- obviously to compete in D1.

Me too. At least he acts like he cares. Some just seem lax to me. I like a kid that wants to fight for every ball and be aggressive. I think he will be a good player for USI since he’s just a freshman. We need more that have his passion. Maybe the coach is a passive person and the team attitudes reflect that.

I still think we need to look more at Europe for some soccer players. I checked UE mens roster and they have 15 international players on this years roster. When I watched them play IU the other day it was like watching World Cup soccer because of all the international players. Overseas, soccer is king of sports. They just seem to do well when they attend US colleges and play soccer here. USI can’t get the best USA soccer kids out of high school because those kids will go to IU or other top 25 soccer programs.

It was simply meant to be. Penalty kick and then goalie kicks it into his own net. USI wins 2-0….

As bad as the men have looked at times this season, it’s encouraging that with 1 game left to play, USI is tied for 6th place in the 9 team Summit League. Considering a few other teams that are not doing well in year 1, 6th place is way better than last place. To be honest, I was just hoping mens soccer would not finish last, which they outperformed that. Still need lots of work before next year, but all-in-all, 6th isn’t horrible considering our baseline coming into this year. And we tied UE which is rated 93rd according to Massey. Attachments:
