I just thought about this, last year SEMO went to the NCAA tournament, this year they don't even make the conference tournament. The portal has changed everything. I don’t remember how much they lost after last season, but they like us didn’t seem to bring in any superstars from the portal. Others, like Morehead and UALR did. SEMO lost Russell (18.6 PPG), Harris (12.7 PPG) and Barnes (10.0 PPG) from transferring or graduation. Besides those 3, they mainly returned everyone from their 2022-2023 squad. Guessing that Korn thought he had enough talent to run it back maybe? The only players that returned with actually scoring capabilities was Smart and Earley. They did grab Martin in the portal from Indiana State, and he seems like he will be a thorn for the next 2 years.

Definitely can drop 20 points if he is playing his A game

I was able to listen to a segment of the radio show last night and Stan said Causewell will be starting against TN State to match up to their size in the beginning of the game. Ryan Hall will come off the bench but will still play starters minutes based on how the game is going.
He said starting Causewell puts The Milk Man and AJ back at their normal positions. Stan said The Milk Man has struggled the past 2 games because he has been playing the 5 and was out of rhythm trying to defend the other teams 5 all game.
Hopefully this change gets Jack going again. If he is hitting 3's anything can happen.

I truly thought if he got more run he would be a really good player. I remember him playing great defense on JP for the limited minutes he received last year. But for some reason even smaller post men are able to back him down. But he does give us our best option currently because Powell would foul out inside of 5 minutes trying to guard that monster.

I was at the show last night and heard Stan say Mielke playing center has changed his efficiency on the shooting front. I would tend to agree that playing a center bigger and probably heavier can wear you down. That definitely has a negative effect on a 3 point shooter because usually tired legs mean missed shots. Causewell is taller, but is very lean and TSU’s center is HUGE and close to 300 lbs. this is where we will miss Hittle to offset his size. But, I agree with Stan that we need to get Mielke back to the 4 spot so he can hit 3s. I believe we were 4 for 22 from long last game which killed us…and in a 4 point loss. I think we need to hit at least 9-10 3 pointers to win tomorrow. They are much bigger and more physically gifted so we need to shoot well to offset their size advantage. If we try to pound it inside on this team, we will lose. Imo, there is no way we can rely on Causewell and KP to carry our offense against someone as big as they are. It would be nice if we could just come out and shoot over 50% for the game, but we have rarely done that this year. I’m not anticipating a win, but if we don’t even play well and with intensity, I’ll be disappointed.

I don’t know if there is another team in the country where we can rely upon KP/Causwell offensively. Hittle was at least able to back people down and get off a shot without it being stolen or losing the ball. It drives me crazy that Causwell at this level of basketball can’t just catch it, turn and shoot. He brings the ball down and immediately starts dribbling. Fundamentally he has had zero coaching in his career and it shows, which is unfortunate.

Well apparently the odds of us winning the OVC are a longgggggggggg shot. I think most of us here would just be happy to win one game in the tournament this year.

I do wonder how much subterfuge goes into the coaches show. It's known that the show is on the radio, online, and available as a podcast because they announce it at every game. I wonder if Stan and Brad are big brained enough to purposefully say something to throw off the gameplanning of our opponents. It might be too late because I'm guessing today was a travel day so they probably had most planning ready. But Stan says "We're starting Causwell and then boom out of the gate we start Hassan.'

With the personnel we have, I don’t think one is capable of tricking too many people.

Speaking of Hasson, wasn’t he supposed to get some minutes these last couple of games? Stan mentioned it like a week and half ago and nothing happened. Guessing he might have checked out on the season
