I am a USI fan that live in Pennsylvania but has a online subscription to the Evansville Courier and Press. Today I could not find one article on the Mayor's Cup in the sports section of the newspaper. If there is no article about the Mayor's Cup all I can say is WOW.

I didn’t see anything about it, but frankly I’m ok with it. USI mens soccer is one of the lowest performing team sports at USI. This will probably be an ugly game unfortunately. Most of the time even as a D2 team, the mens soccer team struggled to win a lot of time. Now in D1, unless something happens, they are going to struggle. If I were making schedules at USI, this would be the LAST TEAM SPORT I would want to play UE in each year. I’m sure the UE fans love this because its usually an easy win for them. Not that it would make much difference, but now that USI is D1, the games should switch to strassweg field every other year. Why should UE get to host EVERY YEAR when they already have an advantage talent wise.

Lindenwood stands in the way of likely winless seasons for both programs.

USI tied UE 0-0 in the Mayor’s Cup. Nice crowd of 1600. We may get a win or 2 this year.
They definitely need to play at USI next year.

If they could play like this every game they will win some games. Coming into tonight’s game, Massey had UE rated at 73rd best team in the country. They had USI rated as 210th best. Just to tie UE is a big plus for USI. Hopefully this will give them the confidence they need to play hard like this every game and win some games this year. Ill be curious to see if this tie moves USI ranking up any. Ill keep an eye on it and post it if they move up.

Another plus for tonight’s game was that it was the 2nd largest attended UE soccer game EVER. That says a lot since UE used to be a contender long ago for championships and NCAA bid every year. Great to see the people come out and support the 2 local universities.

Very proud of the Eagles effort last night. I was a freshman when USI started the soccer program and they were very competitive. When Dennis Grace came on board as coach the team was very good. Had an outstanding goalie in Jamie Swanner from St. Louis, who later played professionally. This is a great area for soccer players and no reason the team should not flourish.

The high school soccer teams here are always state contenders and USI should be looking at some of these players to elevate our program immediately. Now that USI is D1, no reason we can’t retain some of the best soccer players in the area.

I wish I understood why the OVC does not have soccer. I would not think this would be an expensive sport to sponsor. I am glad the team found a conference to play in with the Summit, but the travel for players and fans alike are a lot more difficult.

Since the OVC women already play soccer, there wouldn’t be an expense building a soccer stadium so as you said, it shouldn’t cost too much. I think with all the new schools joining that have mens soccer, it might be happening sooner than later.

Does anybody know if Southern Indiana have won the mayor's cup in the past?

Does anybody know if Southern Indiana have won the mayor's cup in the past? I don’t know the answer and couldn’t find results on UE or USI website. My guess would be that UE has won either all or most of them since they have been D1 for many years and USI mens soccer has struggled over the past 20 years with the exception of a few seasons. I do hope it rotates home/home from now on though. Not really fair for UE to get to host every match.
