But we won 8 lousy games. Winning is all that matters.

True. We have to win more games and that’s the bottom line. We only lost two big scorers tbh. They were both inconsistent and in many games didn’t show up but still played big minutes and took lots of shots. Hernandez got most of his points at the free throw line so he wasn’t really a great shooter from the field. Rebounds are more of a concern to me and it appears we brought in 2 guys already that can really help us with that. We will be better off if we have 8-10 guys that can score double figures most games as opposed to this year where we relied on 2 to carry the team. Next year is going to be completely different with the top teams getting new coaches and the top 3 losing the majority of their offense…which were all much bigger losses than what we lost.

View AttachmentVery interesting news here. Pat Knight, son of Bob Knigh, was just named head coach at NAIA Marian University in Indianapolis. pat was on staff with his dad at P5 schools before and according to some rumors, Marian is considering a possible move to D1. They do have football and have been historically strong in athletics. From what I know about Marion, they are a very rich and highly rated private school and money is not an issue. If they decide to make the jump what do we think about them coming to the OVC? Maybe both Marian and UINDYcome as a package deal? Pat Knight? Talk about a guy who got a job over his dad's name this is one. If Steve Downing wasn't the AD he doesn't get this job...or any other. Has not done anything to distinguish himself as a head coach. Marion is a very good private school that has both a good academic and athletic record. I have no idea of how much money they have, but I feel sure they have some. But for a school under 3,000 students in today's athletic climate would be a tough sell I think to their board of directors. I don't feel they are a school that feels they have to "keep up with the Jones's (UIndy, Butler, IUPUI). They are a great fit for what they are doing now. They do strive for excellence for sure. I'm just not sure D1 sports fits into their vision or not.

Don’t care who we lost last year as that team was one of the worst I’ve had to witness in a LONG time. Portal allows a team to rid of the turds much easier. And last year we had A LOT of big ones!

Before Mercyhurst moved to D1 I would have said I would have a better chance walking on the moon than Marian going D1 but with Mercyhurst going D1 anything possible. Mercyhurst facilities are horrendous for a d1 school

Mercyhurst facilities are horrendous for a d1 school That was a shocker for sure....they are a tiny school with poor facilities. I do wonder with declining enrollments how some of these schools are going to survive. They just shut down two very long standing private schools here in St Louis this year that supposedly had money.

I think the Northeast Conference was desperate for schools. Also I think Mercyhurst has 36 varsity sports. I think we will see Mercyhurst drop many sports programs in the next few years.

Going to be A LOT of private schools shut down over next 4-5 years. Trade school is the way to go now as these schools aren’t teaching much any more. Sad but true…/

If we run an offense capable of having 8-10 guys in double figures in most of our games we will win the OVC for sure. You're probably averaging 75-95 points per game that way.

Wow. The MVC losing another powerful team. This will be another hit to their desire to move up the food chain. Imo, the conference is being watered down and they continue to lose the great teams while adding some clunkers like Valpo and UIC. Will be interesting to see if any other top teams leave now.

Missouri State has badly underachieved in the MVC despite large budget and an ever incresing enrollment. Obviously this move is football driven....chasing a rainbow as far as I am concerned. This move was going to hapen and finally did. I doubt MVC will miss them.

They wanted expansion in the Chicago market but UIC and Valpo were really weak additions.

This move was going to hapen and finally did. I doubt MVC will miss them. I have to think the MVC WILL miss them because they are a Big school with top notch facilities and competitive teams in most sports. Finding another team with what they have will be nearly impossible. If/when they replace them it’s likely going to be a team with lower budget and lower athletic achievements. I’m sure they are looking at teams like NKU,UMKC,St Thomas to replace them, but those schools don’t offer what Missouri State already offers. I see a continuing watering down of the conference. They lost the power schools that put them on the map like Creighton, Wichita State, Loyola which are all now in bigger and better conferences. This hit will just add to the big powers with money bolting, leaving the MVC with less than they had in the past. Add this to losing 2 of the best coaches in basketball and it’s not good for their conference overall.

It will be interesting to see how MO State does in CUSA. I really like their school president. But I just have a hard time believing they will be anymore than an outliner school, as football is the sole reason for the change. It just seems like a waste of money, but they are certainly not alone with their aspirations. NKU has told MVC before they cannot afford their conference. Not sure how much money St Thomas has but they have a promising program. UMKC is a school that has been talked about before, but university presidents have shown no inclination of admitting them and for good reason. Their has been talk before of Oral Roberts, but many feel they don't fit the culture of the rest of league schools. Just as a guess, but I think the MVC will stay put for awhile and see how everything with realignment continues to evolve.
