I found it. I understand their frustration because it was Hall and he didn’t get in the game tonight…but Mervis got 10-12 minutes. I’m sure half the team is eyeing the portal…and to be honest I’m ok with it. We need bigger, stronger more athletic guys to compete because the OVC is extremely physical. Our current guys are mostly lean and lanky but the better teams in our league are football player bodies. We have to get bigger guys without question. Wasn’t Hall in sweats too? Hopefully KP can gain like 20 more pounds and Hittle has been very well the last few games too. That dude is like 6’11 260 pounds I think. Starting to look like NH is finally breaking out and I believe we get him for another 2 years. If Hernandez and Smith are still here, a returning core of them + Meilke and Hittle isn’t too bad. But I have feeling we are going to dig up 5-6 players from the portal.

Neither have really played well most of the year so I can’t really fault the staff for not putting them in much. If they were lighting it up, they would be on the floor imo.

I’m almost thinking he isn’t making an effort to play some so they do want to portal out…Hason, Luther,Hall. They just haven’t proven they should be playing. Probably would be better if those 3 looked at D2 if they want more minutes. Causewell is out of here for sure because of eligibility.

The Hall kid stats have him shooting 34% from the field 25% from 3 and 54% from the line, averages less than 1 rebound per game but ranks 8th on the team in minutes. Not sure the Twitter complaints hold much water.

The big man from Western averaged 5 pts at UMSL, played less than 17 minutes a game. He’s ones of the best big men in this league. Did we even offer him? We passed on Rob Martin who is heads and shoulders better than what we have.
Plenty of good basketball players out there, but are we recruiting the right guys? The transition thing I am not buying into as the reason we are now recruiting less talented players that what we had playing in D2.

Reality is neither one would have gotten a sniff of playing time for very many of our clubs over the past 20 years. The recruiting has been a massive failure.

Very interesting quote here from last night’s game. Some frown upon calling out players publicly, but in my opinion I see this as positive awareness of what is likely to come. The transfer portal crushed us last year. Swope goes without saying, but even Henry and Solomon would have really helped this team. But the rest of this year I see everyone being put on notice. The rest of this year is an audition for who will even be asked to come back. As much as I think the portal will hurt Vs help lower level DI programs, when you need to rebuild from ground up it has its advantages. We need bigger, stronger and more athletic guards.
“That’s one thing I pride myself on is being a disciplined person, disciplined team, disciplined coach: Everything. ... We’ve gotta get some guys on this team that’s gonna pride themselves on those things.
“If that’s turning the roster over, I don’t care. I want guys who want to do things that we have to.”

I agree with his statement. We have a few players that play their asses off for the team, but we have some that just don’t seem to care. Either give us 100% or portal out. We are trying to build a D1 program and we can’t have guys half assing it.

With that being said you still have to get players with some skill.

This years recruiting class was just a total bust…McCord being the exception but he redshirted. We have 5-6 that are decent, but not superstars. That’s just not enough if you want to be top half of the conference. We need a least 10 dependable D1 level guys and frankly we have about 5-6. This coming recruiting class MUST be better. Period.

And McCord we really don’t know since he hasn’t played a single minute. He played at same JUCO as Causwell, who put up big numbers too and he’s proven to be a huge bust. From here on out until I can see the kid play, I’m no longer using video clips as a measurement of talent.

I was surprised that Ryan Hall didn't play last night because he can be a deep threat and also get to the rim. I remember Stan saying he was on the scout team last year as a RS and he was giving the team fits in practice because he is a really good defender.

Beginning of the year Stan said he would be the leading scorer, Hernandez second and Smith 3rd. Not sure what he saw in Hall but I don’t see him as a D1 player.

Looks like one of the player’s parents raised some interesting concerns about the team on Twitter. I guess that parent does not listen to ESPN radio, they had a whole segment on how the mother of Cowboys receiver Cece Lamb called out their QB on social media, and they talking how people were speculating 'is this just her spouting off or is this Cece saying stuff through her.. Regardless she can't be posting stuff.' It then shifted to how one of the guys in the radio show had the discussion with his wife years before saying how she can't call out their kids teams or the officiating crews of their games because the guy was famous and it would be a bunch of unnecessary drama.
