Oh I agree. But I think that’s part of the reason we were able to get someone like Tilmon. He has talent, but other issues. If he didn’t have those issues he probably would have gotten a better offer from a bigger school. It all is tied to transition imo. We have to take kids that are left unfortunately as opposed to kids that are good students and basketball player and without baggage. I really think most of that will go away once we can be on an even playing field with other mids after the 4 years. U til then it’s either take inferior talent without baggage, or take a more talented player with baggage. Both choices have their downside…so which one do we choose? No clear cut answer. Those are very good points and very true. There are most certainly high risk kids...and coaches have to decide if they are worth the risk. Some kids can be a cancer on your team and bring down the rest of the team....

You bring up a great point. When you compare the SEA to most other arenas in the lower levels of D1, it is very impressive. I look at arenas from the smallest 10 conferences and many play in a high school gym type facility…similar to our old place or even worse. To be honest, at this point in our adventure into D1 territory, this is who we are competing with for recruiting. This will give us a leg up if we can get these guys to visit and see that our arena is more in line with the better mid major programs. Of the 362 D1 arenas, the SEA at 4800 capacity is pretty close to the middle in terms of capacity. Now where we stand out even more is the quality of the amenities vs other low and mid majors. Many of the smaller conference teams that play in gyms have no suites,no varsity club room attached,no video scoreboard, only bleacher seats, old outdated restrooms etc. The SEA is state of the art with all those things fans today want to experience in D1 basketball. The 2 decks also give it a really intimidating atmosphere. I bring all this up because once we can get out of transition jail, we should indeed have a big advantage recruiting kids if they come here and see what we have to offer. Not to mention the old pac renovation and state of the art weight training facilities.

So accurate, our new facility is truly something that should help us! My wife and I attended a game last week, her first at the SEA, and even today she comments about how beautiful and impressive the facility is.

I felt the same way the first time I saw it in person after the OVC tournament last year and I had been 'seeing' it on ESPN+ and GLVCSN for 2 years. I think it's completely different seeing it in person, once we can get though transition hell if we get kids in the building it will be a great recruiting tool.
