Interesting take on his comparison between D1 and D2 position players being similar skill wise. I think pitching is the biggest difference between the levels. Imo, this is why USI has struggled this year. As we recruit D1 level pitchers moving forward I think we will become more competitive in D1.

Interesting take on his comparison between D1 and D2 position players being similar skill wise. I think pitching is the biggest difference between the levels. Imo, this is why USI has struggled this year. As we recruit D1 level pitchers moving forward I think we will become more competitive in D1. Exactly, fielding is usually pretty close between D1 and D2, hitting the gap widens a little as 1-9 hitters in d1 are pretty good whereas say 1-6 or 1-5 at the D2 level are pretty good but maybe less pop in the 3 and 4 hole. The greatest divide between D1 and D2 is pitching and for those of you unfamiliar with college baseball I can relate it to college basketball as the biggest divide between d1 and d2 is the big men. Pitchers are the big men in baseball and are a hot commodity and transitioning program will struggle in this area as we have seen USI and Lindenwood do this spring. As USI continues to has more time in the D1 ranks you will see better hitters and better pitching on display here. As some have said we have gone into the D1 year with a lot of D2 caliber pitchers, some have been able to make the adjustment but unfortunately most have not. I just hope the fans of USI and the ones on this board keep the faith and support the team as the process plays out.

I for one will not give up hope. I knew going into this 4 year period that we would see bumps. Some are minor bumps like softball or Cross Country where they really just maintained their high level even after the jump. Some others are hitting mountain sized bumps like volleyball and baseball. My hope is that the ones that are struggling will recruit better and become more competitive. But, it might take 4 years before we see the majority of programs get back to challenging for titles regularly.
