Going to try to make it if weather cooperates. I’ve been able to get out there a handful of times this year. After watching several games on ESPN plus this year it makes me want to see some serious upgrades to the grand stands soon. Even small schools we have played have really nice facility compared to our baseball field. I’m perfectly fine with the field itself and it looks to be in great shape. My only issue is that the grand stands and press box reminds me of what you would see at the local high school field. I know it would cost a lot, but I would love to see a permanent grand stand with partial chair backs. With our other facilities being top notch on campus, this is the one that I think needs an upgrade to be competitive with other D1 schools. It wouldn’t hurt with recruiting either if we could show recruits as really nice home. I remember when we announced going D1 that the report said we needed some upgrades in a few facilities and this has to be one that needs a boost. Hopefully by next season.

Press box should be the first concern. Expansion is definitely needed for the ESPN crew and the opposing radio broadcast. For bleacher upgrades that is where it gets tricky. Rumor is for them to put in a new system with seats behind homeplate, the current homeplate will need to be moved to where the pitcher's mound is now. To do that you would have to move the outfield fence, lightpoles, cutdown a lot of trees, and raise the area behind the fence significantly since there is a drop off behind the fence. Will be interesting to see what can be dreamed up to update the seating at the ballpark. Of course they could raze the current pressbox and start something similar to crosstown but that will take a lot of money and then what do you do with the roads and parking lot in that area? Anyone remember when there was an oil well next to the home dugout? In the meantime come out have a hotdog and a beverage and enjoy the game.

I like watching the games but a chair back would be welcomed. Also, a clean permanent rest room would be appreciated. My wife goes to the games with me and can NOT stand having to use a porta potty while there. Way back in the 1970s I played little league baseball here in town and even we had a permanent structure with restrooms so I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get what my little league had almost 50 years ago. I understand this all costs money, but if little league can have it there is no reason we can’t get it. I agree with you about the press box but I think it would be cheaper, easier and better to just tear down the current one and build a new one with more space for media and on the main level add 2 rest rooms. I think backing it up about 25 feet would allow room to put in permanent chair backs in behind home plate. Get rid of the round about and that solves the road issue. I’m not trying to be greedy and ask for a 5 million dollar stadium, but it might cost up to a million to do what I’m suggesting. Just these few changes would enhance the experience and would entice more to come out and experience D1 baseball.
my suggestion is to get a local bank to pay for it and we can name it after them. We need to start doing this more like other schools do so we can play at a stadium named after a business or person instead of “USI baseball field”.

There is a permanent restroom down the left field line by the deck. Didn't know if you knew that but wanted to pass along.

I think USI should build a new baseball stadium, a new soccer & track stadium and a possible beach volleyball stadium on the land around the softball field and build a softball stadium were the softball field is to create "screaming eagle park".

I’m not opposed to that but that’s a lot of money at one time and probably more than we can afford at this point, but it would be nice.

It may be difficult to convince a local bank to pay for it because practically no one would see their name on the stadium. I’m comparing this to the baseball stadium across town that is sponsored by a bank. Thousands of people see their name as they drive by the stadium every day on The Lloyd Semi-Expresway.

I like the concept of everything close together but I prefer all the fields to be as close to campus as possible. I think athletic events create a buzz and if they are close to campus then campus seems more active. Students more likely to go if the event is close. The softball field is a hike. A beautiful hike but still a hike.
