This is really good news. So much better to be a part of the OVC rather than an odd conference.
Now we just need to add Beach Volleyball and Rifle to USI sports. Ha!

Football is a money pit for most universities.

Looks like Chicago State will also join the OVC in men's and women's golf

It's to bad the OVC did not get Northern Illinois and Western Michigan in men's soccer when the MAC disband men's soccer. The OVC men's soccer could have been Southern Indiana, SIUE, Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois, Chicago State, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

Curious if any current OVC teams will add mens soccer. It would be nice to get at least 3-4 of them to add soccer so we could have 8 full time OVC members participate in mens soccer.

I do not see any of the remaining football teams getting men's soccer. Seems like if a school is a mid major and has a football team them they don't have men's soccer due to title IX issues.

Probably true. I do think this could open a door for potential new schools joining that may already have mens soccer though.

I would like for USI to add beach volleyball I was only half joking about Beach Volleyball and Rifle. We already have facilities for Beach Volleyball. We would probably just need to add some stands and few upgrades. If we had to build a Beach Volleyball court I don't think it would be that expensive to dig a shallow pit and put sand in it. With all the Hunters on The Westside I'm confident we could become an immediate contender in Rifle.

I do think USI should look at adding beach volleyball. From what I can tell in the OVC schools volleyball players are on the beach volleyball teams and in some cases the assistant coach of the volleyball team is the head coach of the beach volleyball team. And since we have the facilities for beach volleyball if USI really wanted a beach volleyball team USI could raise the funds for the sport.

Not to be a party pooper, but USI is really in no position to add sports at the moment imo. The tennis teams - both - are not competitive against D1 teams and needs some major focus. Swimming - both - did not do very well against D1 competition either and needs major improvements. Mens soccer is a dumpster fire and he hasn’t recruited- or at least announced it - any D1 level players. Womens golf is not in great shape either and is usually towards the bottom in most tournaments. I say all this not to be negative but to make my case for not adding anything until we have our current teams up to speed. On the positive side, multiple teams have already proven they can compete today such as mens and womens basketball, softball,CC both, track both, and baseball is competitive and better than their record shows. USI had a 6.5 mil budget our last year of D1 and we are trying to raise money to get us up around 11 mil in 4 years. Unless we drop something, we just don’t have extra money to start up more programs imo. Maybe 8-10 years from now we can discuss adding once we are established in D1.

Baseball program needs a lot of help to be competitive. About to lose to 3-22 Lindenwood.
