What will it take for the USI Women’s team to make the OVC Tourney @ the fabulous Ford Center? Imo it’s going to take some luck at this point to make the tournament. This is a real shame because the difference between USI and the other 9 teams in the OVC is almost zero. The problem is that we let 5 games we should have won slip away and now we are in bad situation. Those 4th quarter breakdowns where we lost double digit leads just killed us this year. We could beat anyone in the OVC or we could lose to just about anyone- except LINDENWOOD. We may not get the chance now though.

The path to the tourney is about as choppy as one can have.

I think we can beat SEMO. Tenn State on the road could be a challenge, but I think we can hang with them. TTU and UALR could be a stretch. If we go 2-2, that would put us at 7-11.
Currently tied at 7th with TSU and and MSU. TSU has: At Morehead, SIUE, At UTM, and then us. Not counting us, could go 2-1. Although wouldn't shock me if SIUE beat them.
Morehead has: TSU, Lindenwood, at Eastern, and at UTM - 1-3 not out of the question.

Morehead 6-11 USI 5-11
Morehead's next game is Saturday vs UT Martin (currently 7-9 in conference)
USI tonight vs Tenn Tech (11-5) and Saturday at Tenn State (7-9)
Any idea what happens if we drop tonight, win Saturday, and Morehead loses? What's the tie breaker?
Got our work cut out for us, but everyone get out to SEA tonight to support our Women in their final home game of the 2022-2023 season!

I just can’t see this team winning another game. USI has got its work cut out for it in many sports being competitive at this level, which we knew coming in to this year. Stein has grown far too comfortable in that seat because the weak minded AD has allowed complacency to set in. It’s time for him to crap or get off the pot.

There a great article today in the paper explaining why we had a hard time running the point this year. BLACKWELL was an all conference player but had to redshirt this year because of injury. Had she been playing this year, we would have won at least 5-7 more games. You can’t take an all conference player away and replace the, with a back up that only played sparingly and expect the same result. It’s a shame for this year, but imo the future looks bright with 3 top recruits next year and Blackwell back at the point. Shafford and Raily are going to be even better next year too. We lost a ton of games by single digits this year, next year I think we win many of those close games.

Not sure I agree with Stein being complacent. He won the GLVC in his final season so he was obviously doing something right at the d2 level, they've won more games in D1 this year than former GLVC teams Bellarmine or Lindenwood did in their first year. Bellarmine's first year, they got blown out by Western which we beat.
I know the year hasn't gone like we've hoped, but I think we got bit by the injury bug prior to the season, and we've learned some valuable lessons in terms of skill and athleticism that maybe we didn't see in the GLVC. And we've been in several games where one or two possessions late in the game determined the outcome. Beating Eastern Michigan and Wright State on the road are huge wins for a program in it's first year of D1. It took Bellarmine 3 years to win a road non-conference game.
Assuming Haithcock is not returning, she's obviously a huge loss for next year. Big shoes to fill for whoever takes Robbe and Brown's minutes. Rieckers didn't put up huge numbers, but she did a lot of dirty work - defending, passing, and leading the offense when she was on the court. Thompson is a huge role player, and the 6th or 7th man. All that being said, I think getting Blackwell back can off set Rieckers graduating. Anxious to see what TK, Carie, and Gallegos do when they move into a more prominent role. Handley, Raley, and Shafford should contend for All OVC teams next year.
The three high school players coming in can find minutes off the bench. I suspect that we will hit the portal for 2 or 3 players who can come in and compete for meaningful minutes.

Re: Tiebreakers.
The Rick Stein show last night addressed the tie breaker scenario.
If we tie with Morehead state, it would first go head to head, which is a split. Next, it goes by record vs the number 1 team - we are both 0-2 vs UALR. Then the number 2 team is EIU - again both 0-2. Third team is where it gets interesting. Third team is TTU - so if we lose tonight, we'd be 0-2, while Morehead is 1-2, so they would get the tie breaker. Fourth team is SEMO, Morehead is 0-2, while we are 1-1. If we win tonight, and then win Saturday, we are in. If we win tonight, and we lost Saturday, and Morehead loses, we are in.
Long way to say that if we don't win tonight, we won't make the tournament.
